Lower court Kuwait punish Hamad Al Khalidi two years in prison because of twittering on Twitter. The charge, according to a human rights activist, insulting the Gulf state's rulers.
In Kuwait, the Emir was criticized illegal and considered a violation of the security of the country. "Al Khalidi was sentenced to two years in prison and immediately executed," said Director of Kuwait Society for Human Rights, Mohammad Al Humaidi, on his Twitter account on Sunday, March 31, 2013.
Al Khalidi was charged with writing comments on Twitter were considered attacked Emir, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. Although the verdict is not yet final, he immediately executed pending the appeals process. His lawyer, Jasser Al Jadaei, said he would file an appeal later on Sunday against a court decision.
Al Khalidi was one of dozens of opposition activists and former member of parliament who tried or sentenced to prison for the same charges. Last week, an appeals court sentence strengthen opposition Bader Al Rasheedi to five years for insulting the Emir called on the coup and through Twitter.
Al Rasheedi has been jailed since November 28 after a lower court sentenced him to two years in prison on charges of spreading false news about the nation and insulting authorities.
More than a dozen young activists and former MPs imprisoned for criticizing the authorities through social networks and activities of the opposition.
Kuwait's opposition has been holding regular demonstrations in protest against the amendments to the election law last year. They also demanded the dissolution of parliament and new elections. Check out the news from Egypt here.
