Captain's cigar box Titanic sold at auction in Liverpool for £ 25,000.
Dusty cigar box was found in the bedroom closet Hilary Mee in the Liverpool area.
The box was discovered by John Crane, an auction expert, when he was invited to judge the price of the cigar box.
Ms Mee said he did not know that the items are related to the sinking ship that although there have been in the house for about 20 years.
The box is decorated with the symbol of the White Star Line shipping company with the initials of the name of the ship's captain, Edward John Smith, a native of Stoke-on-Trent.
Initially Crane could not estimate initials but then he was surprised to find that the box belongs to the captain of the ill-fated ship.
Mee said the box is saved in his home for several generations.
The box is expected to be given to his father by the brothers widow of Edward John Smith, Sarah.
The box is made of wood and can store 40 Havana cigars.
Ship RMS Titanic was built by perusahaanHarland and Wolf, Belfast, and sank when it hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic in the inaugural journey from Southampton to New York in 1912.
